Week 17 (December 1-5)

*Making the day worthwhile*
My Accomplishments
This week, I was able to execute my 2nd rated demo with our Supervising Instructor, as well as I was able to teach lessons.
My Significant Experiences
I never expected that our Supervising Instructors would swap with each other and observe other students aside from us; it was then Sir Bryan who observed me during my rated demo.  Was so nervous that time because I might be saying the wrong information with my topic “The Tao Te Ching” knowingly that Sir Bryan is a Soc.Sci. Teacher.
My Insights
Though there weren't many experiences for me this week, I think it was good because it was a time for me to rest after the rated demo and lesson because I was not really feeling good.

Problems
My body started feeling weak during my rated demo and that I don’t want the result to be affected as well as my upcoming lessons. It led to flu and until now it’s not yet gone.
Solution
Since we have a three day vacation, I am going to confine myself at home and get well.
My Goals for Next Week

My goal for next week is to complete all our requirements like: Field Study, lessons, activity forms, over-all evaluation, etc.

Week 16 (November 24-29, 2014)

“Blissful Week”
My Accomplishments
This week I was able to make a draft for my rated demo which I thought I wouldn't be able to make because of the lack of understanding with the lesson that I had. Thursday night, we were able to travel safely to Clark Pampanga for the TESOL ASIA Conference this 2014. And of course packed with different knowledge and ideas, we came home safely too after 3 days.
My Significant Experiences
The time I was thinking of doing the draft for what I am going to demonstrate next week, I was preoccupied with unexplainable things in mind but still I was able to show something to my critic teacher before I left for Pampanga. Completing requirements helps a lot in making my feeling good.
Thursday night we traveled to Clark, Pampanga and we were worried that we will be lost because we really had no idea where the site was but, Thanks God, we arrived there safely. Also, we didn't have an idea of how the site look like and surprisingly it was a very cozy place to stay though it was far from the city, that makes it look like in another world.
Aside from being the early bird to arrive there, there’s no choice for us but stay in the site because we don’t know somewhere else to stay, it cost us 1700 each for a night, it’s expensive, but we enjoyed our stay there though.
My Insights
didn't expect that only few will be attending the conference unlike the other conference that we attended. It was also overwhelming and feels good because we felt like we’re professionals too, because most of our companions were doctors and masters’ degree holder. And from them, I learned a lot and was also enlightened from there lectures during our stay there.
Problems
All I thought for the first four days in school this week was about my rated demonstration next week. It bothers me a lot because I really don’t understand the topic and don’t know what strategy to use in teaching the 81 chapters of the Tao Te Ching by Lao-tzu.
Solution
Through concentration and determination, I had something presented to my critic this week.
My Goals for Next Week

As scheduled, next week will be our rated demonstration, so my goal is to do my best and pass the evaluation as well as to be able to finish my FS book.:-)

week 15 (November 17-21, 2014)

*Setting the mood for everything*

My Accomplishments
Because we did not have lessons for this week, I made use of the time to do our other requirements which are the report in our teaching profession and our field study book. Other from that, me and my co-student teachers helped in the assessing and facilitating of the activities for the English month every 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm. Aside from our requirements, me and my friends also had the time to enjoy and be happy by going to places that we think will enlighten our minds and hearts especially that Christmas is near. So even for just a short period of time, minds occupied with so many paper things and etc. was filled with memorable moments.
My Significant Experiences
Questionable thoughts came to me when our critic teacher said that we will not be having lessons for this week. Thanks to creative minds, I came to have patience in making the time useful. Also, this week made me feel so responsible for the things that should be accomplished. Being so occupied with important things on the other side is very useful and important in the process of growing though finding time to enjoy things in life is also important to lessen negativism in our life.
Problems
Aside from psychological stress and physical stress, I also have financial problems which make me worry sometimes that I won’t be able to have sufficient allowances.

Solution
Thinking positively is all that helped me a lot because having problems like this makes me worry but thanks to the Father who always hears my prayer and He helps me all the time. In times of failures, nervousness in front of my students and other people and some other issues all I think is positive thoughts that Father is always there for us.
My Goals for Next Week

Hopefully, I would be able to finish my Field Study this week and hoping for good things when we go to Pampanga for the three-day seminar on TESOL.

week 14 (November 10-15,2014)

*Feeling Blessed with everything I have*

My Accomplishments
This week was a continuation of the student’s speech activity in class so I was tasked to handle the class last Monday and Tuesday only. Afterwhich, me and my co-student teachers checked some of the student’s bio-poems and recorded some of their other outputs in class.

My Significant
Experiences
Facilitating a class activity is good and it made me happy that time because my cooperating teacher gave a very positive comment to me which I can manage the classroom well as said by her. Moreover, as a facilitator, you learn more about your students because they share things that you don’t know and must know too. In addition to that, you also create good vibes with them through how you deal with situations.
Also at the university, I feel more comfortable this week working with friends. Though you have understandings, you make more interaction and more understanding with each other because you know well your responsibilities in teamwork. We also had bonding which for us relieves us from stressful activities that we may ever have.

Problems
As for this week, there were many things to do but, I was so lazy to things again.
Solution
Since I will not have lessons for next week, I will make use of the time to accomplish all the things that we need to finish.
My Goals for Next Week
Hoping that I will be able to accomplish all our requirements and stay happy. J

week 13: November 3-8, 2014

*Blessings!
My Accomplishments
After a long vacation, it’s good to be back to school. Well for this week, I was able to execute my first and second lesson last Thursday and Friday. I was also able to conquer my nervousness during the first day my teaching at SLU-LHS maybe because I thought positively. Also, I was able to check the assignments of my students which is a placard containing selected verse: Psalms.

My Significant Experiences
During my first week of teaching at SLU-LHS, I was happy because i was able to deliver the lesson well as what I hoped last week. Thinking positively that I can do things rights gives really a great help. My critic teacher, Ma’am Karen Viernes gave me positive comments after my demo which also inspires me to do better next time. :-)

Problems
Just this week, my laziness again approached that makes me restless sometime. I was lazy to do the things I was supposed to do.

Solution
Make myself more focused and also motivate myself to do the things I am supposed to do so that I will be able to complete our requirements.

My Goals for Next Week

My goals for next week is to improve more on my teaching skills, to develop god rapport with my critic teacher and students for a better evaluation, and follow the suggestion given to me by my CT.

week 12 (October 27-November 1, 2014)

*Sailing Forth*
My Accomplishments

My accomplishments this week were more of requirements and personal things, just like being able to have our quarters cleaned because we have just been deployed at SLU-Laboratory High School. Also, while waiting for our orientation from the School Principal, most of us made use of the time to summarize the 30 lessons that we had executed at BCNHS and also to have it peer checked by our classmates. We also have compiled our works in our own portfolios and submitted it to our beloved Supervising Instructor last Thursday. Last Friday, I also went home at Buguias, Benguet to be my parents and relatives for our family gathering every 1st day of November, so it was an accomplishment for me to be home and be with my family.

My Significant Experiences
There were no much significant experiences for me during our first week of practice teaching at SLU-LHS since I haven’t tried teaching yet. But during my week end, I have a lot to tell since I was so happy that “I made it” to be with my family. Since the start of Academic Year, there was no time for me to go home and be with them, and I thought I will not be able to be with them this time because of just a short vacation. Going home for even just for a moment is significant because we always have family gathering every 1st day of November to be one in paying respect for our relatives who already passed away, praying for them and ourselves, and also staying together as one family.
Problems
Last Thursday, I visited the class that is assigned to me. As I entered the class, I was a bit shocked and already worried because the classroom was too big for me. I was really worried about my voice when I start teaching.
Solution
I will try to get well soon and be able to condition myself to have a good voice after vacation because I might have more difficulties in speaking louder when I get back next week and start teaching.
My Goals for Next Week
To be more firm as a teacher and be able to have a good catch during my first day of teaching at SLU-LHS.

week 11

October 20-24, 2014
Saying our Gratitude
My Accomplishments
This week, I reached my goal last week which is finishing my 30 lessons and I did. I also was able to say goodbye and say thanks to my students and critic teacher.
My Significant Experiences
In this journey at Baguio City National High School, I am glad that I was able to grow and develop my skills in teaching though it wasn't actually an excellent performance but happy I was to be there. An experience which cannot be discarded and should not be forgotten since it was a big part that molded us in our teaching development.
This week was our last week at BCNHS so for some was a sad feeling for them to leave because they had good times and don’t want to end it, but for me was happy feeling because I enjoyed my stay there. I don’t want to be sad because I know that because of them, I will become a better person when I sail to our next destination.
Before we left BCNHS, we did good things that for me were one of the best experiences that I had there. Aside from giving a fruitful token to our own critic teachers and saying emotional goodbyes to our students, we have serenaded each faculty in BCNHS including the principal’s office of course. Teachers were all happy when we did that so that what made me happy about it.
My Insights
I thought that I would not be able to finish my lessons and that my students will not miss me when I say goodbye to them. But I think I was wrong because aside from finishing my lessons, my students shared good things about me and the things that they think I must improve.
Problems
Now the problem is most of my student’s comment was about my voice which is soft and not that loud.
Solution
I thought my voice was loud when I am speaking but then it wasn't actually that good so I think I must improve it by practicing to have a well-modulated voice so that when we will be deployed in the private school, I will have lesser problems.
My Goals for Next Week
My goal for next week is to be prepared whoever my critic teacher and students are.

week 10

My Accomplishments
For this week, I’m glad that I was able to execute lessons better. Also that I was able to pass our requirements in our Teaching Profession subject.During the examination at BCNHS, I was also able to help my critic teacher proctor the class.
My Significant Experiences
Listed are some of the advantages/disadvantages being in a Science class for me:

-teacher needs to remind students of their responsibilities inside the classroom (cleanliness)
-Teacher needs to be equipped more on cognitive and strategies
+ lessons are easily grasped by the students
+ no worries for a teacher when it comes to disciplining students in terms of their noise
+ instructional materials are available in the classroom
+ teacher may give difficult activities/ HOTS for the students

Here are also the things that I have learned from my loving, intelligent, and kind critic teacher:

*I have learned many things from her even in just a short period of time. Like the first time I entered her class up to the present, she never got mad to all her classes, instead she just tell them the consequences of their negative acts if there are. Also, she taught for decades so she knows how to handle different kinds of students.
* “Practice makes perfect” is the quote she always tell me which I also like.
* Teaching naturally and not memorizing the lesson plan thus master the lesson is what I also learned from her.
* Always smile

This week, we also had a seminar workshop last Saturday at Deceastecker building which helped us realize what should be a teacher’s virtue or what should be in their hearts. As Ma’am Lagos, our speaker for the day, shared the different virtues that a teacher should enhance, I was thinking of remembering things or not for the negative thoughts. Also stated during the seminar was to always think positively even when worse things occur in our lives. We made an output which is a heart full of virtues too.

My Insights
Through practice, patience, obedience and passion helped me to improve my practice teaching which my critic teacher had shared to me during our last post conference. It makes me feel good hearing some improvements on my performance.
Problems
There are times when I feel so lazy, sad, and sometimes serious and not on the mood to teach.
Solution
Maybe best for me this time is to have fun and enjoy life, make things one at a time, and look for good things that make me happy and inspired.
My Goals for Next Week
ü  Always stay happy
ü  Be more energetic
ü  Be emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically stable
ü  Complete the 30 lessons to be accomplished at BCNHS.

week 9

“Sailing with passion”

My Accomplishments
I was able to teach 5 lessons for this week. I was also able to have our requirements in our teaching profession subject.
My Significant Experiences
As one valuing in one of my lessons: “Beautiful is not just based on the physical appearance, it is more in the inner beauty of a person”, so if u judge a person, you don’t just look on what they look like but also on who they are.
One of my classes which I consider difficult to be disciplined in terms of their noise were actually very good-hearted people which I didn’t expect from the beginning. As time passes by, they always show respect and love for their teachers though they are still noisy. So I said to myself that all of my students whom I think are the problems in their classrooms are actually kind deep inside. And I was right because last Friday before I went to my classes, I felt very tired so I questioned myself on how to handle my students if they become too noisy, but when I was already in the classroom my weak body became light. My heavy feelings were paved by them which I still can’t explain it until now.
My Insights
I really am thankful for having a very kind and loving Supervising Instructor that gives us advices for our own betterment, a kind and thoughtful Critic Teacher who also helps us in our practice teaching, friends who always cheer me up, family who are always there for me, and God who doesn’t give up on me since I started sailing out for journey.
Problems
There are times when I become lazy and don’t want to work or teach. Though there are also times that I am eager to have a lesson and teach. This is maybe because I find my other class difficult to handle.
Solutions
I’ll try to find ways on how to get my student’s attention and interest when I teach.
My Goals Next Week
Considering that the end of our practice teaching at Baguio City National High School is near, I hope that all my students have learned something from me even for a short period of time. Furthermore I hope that I will be able to deliver the remaining lessons assigned for me very well.

week 8

"Look Forth to the Open Side"

My Accomplishments
For this week I was able to execute 3 lessons.
Last Wednesday was also our Supervising Instructors’ birthday, so we celebrated it in during our class.
We also gave our support to our candidates for Mr. and Ms. SLU (Saint Louis University) 2014 by watching the pageant last Saturday

My Significant Experiences
"Take time to relax and enjoy the moment."
Giving you respect and gratitude you love and care is one of the best that you can give. This month of October is full of good activities like birthdays and tribute celebrations.
In Navy Base Campus, during our Teaching Profession subject, we celebrated our Dear Supervising Instructors’ Birthday. It all went great because each group have presented something which we haven’t planned and thought of it. We made our teacher happy as we wanted to as well as we also have enjoy the celebration.
Next was the Teacher’s Day Celebration at Baguio City National High School. Some students gave their greetings and gratitude to their own teachers so they have prepared different surprises for them. In the afternoon we also had presented something for the teachers at City High. We sang and some of our companions also danced with the theme: "My Teacher My Hero".

Weekend came and I celebrated my 21st Birthday with my family and friends.

My Insights
Teachers become happy and complete when they receive good things especially sweet greetings and sincere gratitude from their students. So just like this month of October, World Teacher’s Day is being celebrated and students get the chance to show their love also for their teachers.

Problems
Last Thursday, I was so worried that I cannot deliver the lesson well because I don’t understand it well. But I was not able to teach our class because of the programs our students have prepared. So I expected it that I was going to teach the next day but it was also “Teacher for a Day” of the students so I did not also teach the lesson.

Solutions
I will study my lessons well so that I will be more prepared when I’m already in the school.

My Goals Next Week
I hope that I will still continue to execute lessons well in class. I hope for more peace of mind and love for myself, to God and the people around me. :-D

Week 7

My Accomplishments
For this week, I was able to execute my other rated teaching and my demo-teaching observed by my Supervising Instructor. Also for this week, I was able to control my emotional problems.
My Significant Experiences
I was not actually ready for the demo-teaching because my schedule was supposed to be next week but then our schedule was suddenly changed without me noticing it. It was just last Tuesday afternoon when I saw it, and I was the last person who saw it because I just came from a straight teaching. So I rushed to my critic teacher and asked her to give me a lesson. And since it was already the end of lesson two and there are no other choices, I had to have the lesson on ‘collocations’. Also the time was not supposed to be 3:00-4:00 but since there are no other time slots and nobody wants to exchange, there’s again no choice for me but to go for it. It was good that my critic teacher gave me time to practice before my demo-teaching, but I don’t’ know, maybe I was not really good at that lesson so my demo was not that satisfactory. Well I just hope that it will not be a re-demo and that I can do better for the 2nd demo when we will be at the Laboratory School.
My Insights
There are really times that we expect something at the same time do not expect the things to happen. I learned to be more prepared than just prepared.
Problems
My very comment during my rated demo-teaching with my critic teacher was on the art of questioning, that it should be spontaneous and has follow-up questions that will relate to the lives of the students. Next is my voice, my critic teacher said that it needs to be more modulated because it is soft. Third is that, teaching should not be a spoon-feeding the students.
Solutions
I will try to practice the art of questioning so that there will be no hanging ideas, also make my voice louder by practicing to speak appropriately and louder. As my critic teacher said, I will let my students be the one to explain the lesson, give examples and be the one to define the lesson for the day.
My Goals Next Week
I’m looking forward for an improvement on my teaching skills; be mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally stable.

Week 6 (September 15-19)

My Accomplishments:
I experienced having a straight teaching last Tuesday, it was supposed to be last Monday but because of the typhoon we didn't have our classes. Other than I also had executed more than 3 lessons this week.
My Significant Experiences:
As I sail through the ocean of education, I have experienced straight teaching though it was not Monday because of the typhoon. But at least I tried to teach the different sections that my teacher is handling. I was nervous because it’s my first time to teach the other 2 sections. But after that it was worth it because the tension I had was gone and was replaced with satisfaction that after teaching the first section, I’m reflecting on the things to improve and not to do, as well as my critic teacher helped me by giving tips and advises to me, so as I take the next class, I feel like I’m becoming better.
I also had experienced having a change of topic because of some instances that have occurred, so I had to make another lesson plan to be executed to the next class, lucky for me that I had vacant for  three hours, and so with great faith I was able to finish it before the scheduled time. I was able to execute it in class after that, I felt very happy because even though at first I was again tensed, but at least I did it well as said by my critic teacher. Thanks to her!J
My Insights:
I now clearly see that when a teacher builds a good rapport to her students, it also affects how they participate well in class. Also when a teacher gives good consideration in class, students tend to participate more in class.
Problems:
How can I be like my critic teacher who is very smart, considerate, and loved by her students?
Solution:
As the waves go stronger and harder, my ship should also be firm and also strong for it not to drown. So for me to be able to reach my destination, I will my try my best to be good and be better teacher.
My Goals for Next Week:

My goal for next week is simple, for me to be able to sail to my destination following my map. That for me to be able to execute more lessons well.

Saturday, September 13, 2014

Week 5 (September 8-12, 2014)

My Accomplishments
I was able to enjoy our 3-day training and learned to be appreciate and be satisfied with the things that I have and treating everything in life as a blessing every day.

My Significant Experiences

Last September 8-10 was our Basic Scouting Training at Quezon Elementary School. At first, I was not happy going there because I just felt bored during the first day for what I’m expecting was an outdoor training where we could be doing some outdoor works like putting up a fire, and others. Instead we just seated for the whole day listening to the topics being discussed, and so many of our classmates fell asleep on their seats. But for me, I was trying all my best just to stay awake like eating, taking down notes but I even took pictures of my classmates sleeping. But then, I realized that the 3-day training was meant for leadership, and not going their just for fun. We are teachers and leaders to be that is why we need to know first the basics, the history and everything about what we are going to lead. And so for the next days, I enjoyed for we also had activities like having a flag and name of our own group; presenting a skit about social involvement; having our own cheer and song. We also had our campfire during the second day. We experienced how the ceremony was done. It was just a short program before going to sleep and bone fire is not needed. So we went home late that time. On the third day, we had an outdoor activity, we learned about knot tying, using the compass, measuring without the use of an instrument, giving first aids, lashing and knowing the flag code. Overall, I enjoyed our scouting, thanks to Sir Jaime Castro who made our days enjoyable sharing his full energy and talent to us. I salute him for his age 85, he is still strong and jolly all the time.
Thursday, we went back to school and had our own lesson. As for me, I helped my critic teacher in facilitating our class with their activities.

My Insights
I learned that if I put all things in mind positively, it all goes well. Like when I said that I was bored during the first day of our training and I told myself that everything has a purpose, it all ended wonderfully. And it’s true that we are the one’s controlling our own destinies by making use of our heart, mind and action.
Problems
I told myself before that I won’t tell my problems to other people because I might affect them. But as months and days pass by, I realized that I’m becoming lonely and I don’t want that my practice teaching is affected.
Solutions
Since I have many friends, I will keep in touch with them and always stay healthy and be positive in life so that everything will be okay. If others have surpassed being single, I know that I can too, maybe I was just used to be in a relationship for years. As young adults, we also have to be emotionally matured to take aside emotional problems out of the real world so as not to affect other people.
My Goals Next Week

I wish that I’ll be able to execute more lessons in good way and have good score. J Also, I’m looking forward to a better tomorrow where smiles around never fails to show.

by Emelvin

Week # 4 (September 1-5, 2014)

My Accomplishments:
I started this month of September with love to Mother Nature; I joined the tree planting last September 1 (Monday) with my critic teacher, students, and other co-student teachers at Barangay South Drive, Baguio City. It was good that we joined and be able to plant at least 5 trees each. I was also able to check the journals of my students reflecting on the life of “Makato and the Cowrie Shell”. I also had an introductory lesson on the lesson: “Revisiting our Rich Past” which is the next topic for this quarter. And last Friday, our advisory class was tasked to finish their Investigatory Project, so I and my critic teacher decorated our classroom in preparation for judging of classrooms on Monday (September 8, 2014). But we were not able to finish it the whole day so my critic teacher asked us to continue it the following day which is Saturday.

My Significant Experiences:
When we went to Barangay South Drive for our tree planting, we walked. It was fun because there were only few people on the street or even at Session Road since it was closed in preparation for the parade of Baguio Day Celebration. We were oriented before we planted the trees so as to have additional knowledge on what and how to do the planting. Afterwhich, we were all happy that we accomplished our goal for that morning and that we planted more than 100 trees. So before we went home, we all hoped that the trees we planted will grow.

My Insights:
I thought before that if I have started my teaching the right way, it would always stay as is. The last time I taught, I didn’t felt good about my teaching because, my students were all silent and only few of them were actively participating. So I promised myself and my Critic Teacher that I will do better next time. I was so happy that she said to me: “Practice makes perfect, so just go on and improve yourself.”

Problems:
Comments given to me before during my first teaching was my voice, it was not that modulated, so I have to practice it. But still when I taught for the third time, I think I still have to improve my voice for it to be modulated so students at the back can hear me clearly.

Solution:
First, I might have to train speaking in front of my classmates or friends observing louder voice. Second is train myself to encourage my students in participating in class so there will be an interaction inside the classroom while teaching. And thirdly, I should be taking the comments given to me positively to have a good teaching result soon.

My Goals for Next Week:
I hope that I could be able to have a lesson next week and that I could be able to execute the lessons well.

by Emelvin Week 3: (August 26-29)

My Accomplishments:
My first week at Baguio City National High School (BCNHS) became great. I was able to experience teaching the class I as assigned. For my first teaching, my topic was on Idioms and on the second day of teaching, my topic as Bibliography. Atleast I had overcome my great nervousness before teaching, it was lessened somehow.

My Significant Experiences:
August 26, 2014 (Tuesday) was the day we were immersed at BCNHS. At first, before we went there, I was so nervous that I can’t understand. But when we already arrived there and met our own Critic Teachers, I had a good feeling about my critic teacher; her name is Mrs. Zobel Epler. I knew that I will learn so many things from her since I noticed that she is a very kind and helpful person, also one of the best teachers in that school. She was also the one who told me that “teaching is great when you love teaching”.

My Insights:
I never thought that my first practice teaching will be that great, but I hoped for it that much, so I really thank God for giving me the strength in surpassing my nervousness and facing my weaknesses.
Problems:
I had butterflies in my stomach since August 24 knowing that our deployment was very near.
Solution:
I handled my emotional problem of course by thinking positively, that whoever my critic teacher or students would be, anything will be great. I told myself to do great with a smile with me all the time.
My Goals for next week:
My goals for next week are of course to continue being a blessing to my students by doing my best to be a good teacher to them. Another is to improve the comments given to me by my critic teacher which are: to louden my voice and make it more modulated, and practice the art of questioning.
